One of those stupid things

Ever have that? You think something is not working right and you spend hours trying to find out why, digging into source code, only to find in the end you just missed an option in the screen somewhere?

I've been trying out project management software the last couple of days. First there was phpGroupWare. All very well but when I hit add project, there was no form, just a title. Maybe something wrong in my config but it was a little too frustrating to figure it out. The way the whole thing worked was just not exactly what I was looking for in the first place. I don't need groupware, I needed project management. I know, closely related, but I needed something mainly to get an overview for myself, not in a group.

So moving on to Google, found phProjekt. Half in german (the code and tables that is), and didn't feel very well built. No, not right either.

Then I found dotProject. Now this looked promising. Installed smoothly, and I started adding some companies and projects. I added a user for myself, gave it admistrator rights and logged in... Company list was empty.. hey that's weird. I added one, but this one too went 'missing'. Projects was also empty. Logged in with the administrator account, and saw the company.. Ok, digging into the code (which was quite complex but looked pretty solid), trying to figure out why. Took some time to find the right query, then I saw it was selecting based on whether or not I was the company owner... hhmmm.. and administrator should be able to see all companies, don't you think? Then I saw it. The filter options had a company owner, which was on your own name by default. Oh no.. don't I feel stupid now?

Time to really start playing with this thing to see if I like it..
